Founded in 2025, the Spay and Neuter Clinic began a new chapter when we proudly took over Whiskers and Paws following Margie’s retirement. Building on her legacy, we are dedicated to providing affordable, compassionate spay and neuter services—especially for feral cats—to help reduce overpopulation and improve animal welfare.
Our mission is to make a meaningful difference by offering low-cost, high-quality care. 2025 marks the beginning of our journey, and we are excited for the opportunity to do wonders—for our animals, and for the people who care for them. As we grow, we hope to expand our services and outreach to better serve the entire community. We are a nonprofit organization, proudly associated with the Upper Keys Humane Society. Together, we share a commitment to the well-being of animals and rely on the support of generous donors to continue our mission.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shirley A. Thomas, MD, our Surgical Director. Her leadership, vision, and generosity are the foundation of our mission. Dr. Thomas not only stepped in to lead the clinic, but also continues to volunteer her time and energy, ensuring the work inspired by Margie’s legacy lives on. Her unwavering commitment is the heartbeat of this organization.
We are also deeply thankful for Dr. Brian Huntsman, whose surgical expertise and compassionate care change lives with every procedure, and to our incredible veterinary technician, Savina Lee, whose skill and dedication set the gold standard.
A special thank you to our devoted volunteers—Sammi Nitkiewicz, Sue Baker, Vanessa Heymann, and Robin Husman. Their hard work, love for the animals, and consistent support keep this clinic running day after day.
This mission thrives because of people like them. Their time, talent, and heart make all the difference. We thank them dearly for being the soul of our clinic and for carrying forward the work that saves lives.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
